So far in 2021, after gathering two quarters of shipment and delivery data. It appears as though business jet shipments and deliveries have been moving quite regularly, and as expected at this point, past the 6 month mark. As per the updated General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) report for September 2019. It looks as though the number of business jets that were delivered so far in 2021 is approximately 264. As for turboprops (single & multi-engine), there are around 221 that were shipped and delivered up to now in 2021.
While the market had about a 20% drop overall in 2020, it looks as though 2021 might be looking better, based on the numbers we are seeing from Q1 & Q2 to this day.
Below you will find a quick overview discussing the 5 best selling private jets (or aircraft families / series) in the first half of 2021.
1. Gulfstream 500-650ER
As usual, Gulfstream appears to keep a fairly consistent track record of being one of the most selling manufacturers of business jets. It was reported to be number one in 2020, delivering over 100 units of the G500 and G600 series combined. To this day so far in the year 2021, the Gulfstream G500 and G600 series are the best selling business jets. With a total of 43 units delivered.
Total Sold: 43 Units / Aircraft
2. Bombardier Global 5000-7500
While not delivering as many aircraft as Gulfstream at this point. The Bombardier Global series is looking to be on pace to ship just as many or more units as it did in 2020. Since the addition of their newer models in 2020 (the 5500, 6500 & 7500), Bombardier appears to have a good chance of performing better than it did last year if it can keep this momentum up. The first two quarters of 2020, almost match how many units have been shipped, in the first quarter of 2021. As of Sept 2021, the Global 5000-7500 series has sold approximately 33 units. (2)
Total Sold: 33 Units / Aircraft
3. Cirrus Vision Jet (SF50)
After the first quarter numbers were released. We thought the interest in Cirrus was starting to settle down. Although as the Q2 numbers have just been posted. We have come to the realization that the SF50 is still a very popular the light private jet in the market, with 16 private jets being delivered in the quarter itself. With this momentum going into the third quarter, we are very curious to see just how well Cirrus will perform versus the other manufacturers when 2021 has finally come to an end, and the data is in. At number 3, the Vision Jet has sold 23 units as of Sept 2021.
Total Sold: 23 Units / Jets
4. Embraer Phenom 300 / 300E
Just like last year, the Phenom 300E appears to be selling a lot more than its 300 predecessor. Out of 50 units shipped last year, the 300E was delivered 40 times out of those 50. We believe the added aisle space may be a factor. Although over the years, the Phenom 300 has been a popular seller quite consistently year in and year out. If they can continue to stay on track, they may be able to meet or surpass their numbers from last year. The Phenom 300 / 300E places in at number 4, with 20 units sold in 2021 so far.
Total Sold: 20 Units / Jets
5. Bombardier Challenger 350 / 650
Like we’ve witnessed in previous years, Bombardier seems to have a tendency to appear more than once on top selling lists. They were among our top five listed two times last year, and it appears that this year it might happen again. We are unfortunately unable to tell which aircraft has sold more. Although the Challenger 350 and 650 are highly sought after business jets, that appear to have many satisfied customers. As per the GAMA Q2 shipment and delivery report. The Challenger 350 / 650 series has sold 18 aircraft as of September 2021.
Total Sold: 18 Units / Jets
Final Words
We hope that this information has provided you with a better outlook as to which business / private jets are being shipped and delivered the most throughout North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Getting a perspective of which aircraft sell most consistently, is a good way to gain an understanding of the market.
It also helps you gain a better grasp of which manufacturers are worth placing an investment of your time and money. For the short term or long term of your lease / ownership of the asset.
